Lilikoi? Li Hing Mui? Guava? Azuki? Mochi?

You want to try something local, but sometimes it’s really difficult to order the right thing when menu items appear in a different language. You might not find every single flavor written here at each shave ice store, but this will give you a great starting point to building the shave ice that’s perfect for you.

Something tart: lilikoi (passion fruit), pineapple and pickled mango. All flavors will give that sour punch that will make your tongue curl.

Something sweet: guava, coconut and lychee. All purely sweet flavors for those with a sweet tooth.

Something sweet and sour: pineapple, li hing mui and coconut with condensed milk on top. My absolute favorite! The li hing mui flavor really adds that extra kick of tartness to the pineapple while the coconut and condensed milk creates another dimension of sweetness to each bite.

If you love your toppings, then shave ice is the perfect place to go wild. Try the local favorite with sweet Japanese azuki beans and mochi balls and maybe a scoop of ice cream in the middle to make it more creamy. Or, my personal favorite: condensed milk with a dash of li hing mui powder on top.
