Hawaii Travel & Things To Do In Hawaii

Amy Fujimotohttps://alohawithlove.com
I grew up in Hawaii and love trying out new things to do in Hawaii. When I'm not writing about Hawaii travel, I document my Mom's recipes, hike with Daisy the waddling rescue, work on my 200-gallon aquaponics system, and dream about my future van conversion so I can do some more traveling.

Keiki Hikes on Kauai

Kauai is arguably the most beautiful Hawaiian Island when it comes down to nature. As the chain’s oldest island, it has had time for the Waimea Canyon to form, a fresh water river to flow from the mountains and gorgeous, untouched cliffs of the Na Pali coast. With the wettest spot in the world located on this island, it’s no wonder why everything is so incredibly fresh and green!

Ke Ala Hele Makalae – is a paved bike path with beautiful coastal views. Incredibly easy to walk and enjoy with even a toddler. Just keep a lookout for bikes and you’ll be fine.

Iliau Nature Loop – Very easy and short hike at Waimea Canyon. Perfect for toddlers or if you just need to stretch your legs. There’s not much shade here so go early or save this for an overcast day.

Kuilau Ridge Trail – Easy hike for 5 years and up AND for parents carrying toddlers or infants. The path is flat and you’ll be rewarded with heart-thumping views.

Kuamoo Nounou Trail – The “Sleeping Giant” hike is a good hike for older kids, but choose a non-muddy day for this hike or you’ll slip and slide the whole way. If you have very young children, stop at the picnic tables since it becomes decidedly harder from this point. Those who make it to the top will have an amazing 360 degree view!

Local Tip: My parents took me up this trail when I was a kid and it’s the only thing I remember from that trip. Seeing the giant was a magical, fairytale-like moment for me and I think it will be for your kids, too!

Botanical Gardens – Any of Kauai’s botanical gardens provide a safe and fun environment for children to explore and play. Kauai’s gardens are also noted as the most beautiful so adults will find these interesting.

Extra tip: Each garden has a different theme (ex: Limahuli features indigenous, culturally important plants such as trees for canoes, taro patches and even showcases an ancient Hawaiian irrigation system. But, you won’t find many flowers here). Make sure to choose one that fits your style.
